Website Refresh for SJY

Team Lead

UI Design

UX Design

We were commissioned to do a website refresh for the Finnish-Japanese Association (SJY), a non-profit organization that promotes cultural exchange and friendship between Finland and Japan. The website had outdated design, complex navigation and inconsistent content.

Process

We redesigned the information architecture and the page structure using card sorting, which confirmed our hypothesis of a good possible structure for the website.

We designed a new visual identity for the website, using colors, fonts, and images that reflect the association's values and mission.

We also validated our design solutions with user testing, using Figma's prototyping feature. The main challenge of the project was the large amount of content and the integration of different WordPress plugins on the website.

We also ensured that the content management system (CMS) was working with blog posts and calendar events and matched the client's needs.

We worked as a team of four people on this project. I was the project manager (or team lead). My main tasks were delegating work, scheduling, and negotiating with the client, but also designing and implementing the user interface on WordPress.

Outcome

We delivered a modern, user-friendly, and responsive website that showcases the association's activities, events, and resources. The website has improved usability, accessibility, and SEO.

The client was very satisfied with the result and thought that the website really matched their values and mission. We also provided documentation and training for the client to maintain and update the website easily.
